Mermaid playfully overturns one of mythology's most familiar ideals of feminine beauty.

Rather than the slender, demure figure of traditional depictions, Seth Falconer's mermaid is exuberant, physical and joyfully at ease in her own form. By reversing both the human and animal elements of the familiar mythical creature, the sculpture invites us to reconsider the cultural archetypes we inherit.

Whimsical at first encounter, Mermaid ultimately becomes a celebration of movement, individuality and inhabiting one's body without apology.
