The Thinker

Created during South Africa's first lockdown, Social Distancing is the second work in Seth Falconer's Centaur series.

Traditionally wild, powerful and assured, the centaur is reimagined here as an awkward, introverted creature — part man, part donkey — tentatively reaching outward in search of connection.

His physical isolation is echoed by his own emotional constraints. There is humour in his absurdity, but also tenderness: a portrait of the very human desire to connect when both circumstance and ourselves seem to stand in the way.
