Folded

Folded sits at the intersection of representation and abstraction.

Through a language derived from origami, Claire Falconer reduces the form to intersecting planes, edges and folds. Detail gives way to geometry, allowing light and shadow to become part of the sculpture itself.

The contradiction is central to the work: a form that appears folded from something light and temporary has instead been cast in bronze — solid, weighty and enduring.

As the viewer moves around the sculpture, its faceted surfaces continually shift between recognisable form and abstraction.
